Lady in the Water

I recently had the chance to see the M Night Shamalon film, Lady in the Water .
Perhaps you'll be interested to find out that the main character played by Paul Giamatti stutters!
The film is about this man who finds a magical sea creature in his apartment pool called a narf.
A narf is a type of sea nymph, kind of like a mermaid with legs. Her name is Story, and when the guy talks to her, he talks smoothly and doesn't stutter!
The plot: Story is from a place called the Blue World. She is a character from a bedtime story, and has a message for mankind. The people in the apartment realise they are also part of her story. So basically the movie is about how the people in the apartment help Story get back home while protecting her from creatures that are trying to stop her like the vicious nad venomous scrunts.
The movie is okay, but not as good as I thought or hoped. The best part was the fact the the lead male character stammers a lot. M Night Shamalyon is a good story teller and director, but it is just that the story wasn't good enough. Some of the charactors were interesting, especially the movie critic but they just didn't go together well.
In this movie, the apartment owner does not stutter when talking to Story. Although It might be the magical powers she posseses, it is true that many stutterers tend to not stutter when talking to animals or people they are comfortable with. This is one reason why a lot of people stutter very little in therapy sessions when we are alone with the therapist in a quiet, cool room that allows us to be more relaxed and able to say things more slowly, which gives a misconception of our severity to the therapist.
Also, the man does not stutter when he is very exited, and doesn't think about his speech and just talks. In a scene like that, he didn't even know he was speaking so well until a friend beside him points it out. Now I don't know about others, but this happens to me in some occations, especially when I am anxious, but some other times, when I really want to say something I tend to try to talk fast and get stuck in my speech.
