Super Therapy?

Well it seems like it if what they say is true!

The staff at Hollins Communications Research Institute (HCRI), have been doing some advanced cutting edge research on speech disorders. And they are offering an intense 12-day treatment for those who stutter. And their goal is not really "improved" fluency or "feeling better" about stuttering, but rather to give you normal-sounding fluent speech!
It sounds a bit too much and overwelming, and too good to be true, but they say that 90% of their participants achieve fluency! And the drop out rate is 1%!
And the cost rate is about 1/3rd of traditional treatment. However, it is only offered at HCRI in Roanoke, Virginia USA, and there are 17 sessions in one year. So those may cause a problem for many.

Well, this program seems truely amazing to me! Except I'm not sure if the fluency lasts or not.
So here is a link, and see what you think!

I went to Hollins in 1996. And, They did not live up to their claims in my view. I was in a group of six and no one left "Fluent." Secondly, it is a very expensive program $3000 back then and it cost about $3000 for living expense as well.

hey, I just found your blog and I am glad someone else has a blog on stuttering! Anyways, I heard about Hollins and have heard some nice and not so nice things about it. I haven't been to it so I can't tell you what it is like.

What I can tell you about, is the Successfull Stuttering Management Program in Eastern Washington University. It only happens once a year and only 9-10 stutterers can go. I'm only 17, but I went for the first time in summer 2005 and it changed my life forever! I can go on and on about it but to make it short. This program tries to make you feel good about who you are and your stuttering. Achieving that mental state will bring you happiness and you might even notice fluency! but that is not the point. This program costs between $2000-$3000 and that covers the classes, meals, and housing (not the plane ticket).

Can mjac clarify the cost total was aroung $6000 back in 1996? Or anyone else? Did you go alone with with your family? I'm just now in the process of checking out Hollins and other possibilites for my 12yo son. Thanks
